Congratulations to the 2010 Reflect on Red Challenge Winners!

What a success…all due to the 47 fabulous quilts submitted for the Reflect on Red Challenge for the 2010 quilt show! Entrants were asked to “Make a quilt that shows how red inspires, impacts or influences you.” Whatever the reason for entering, it was the largest response to a challenge in recent memory. A diverse array of quilt styles and techniques…from redwork (note the rules did not require red fabric, only “red”) to hand appliqué to fusing to piecing and embellishments were entered. There were quilts with a serious side, those that represented fond memories or loved ones, and many were inspired by humor. They all made a fabulous display at the show, which received many kudos from viewers. Some viewers even wanted to vote for the challenge quilts as part of the viewer’s voting.

Many said it was difficult to vote because of the quality of the entries. In spite of the difficulty, winners were chosen by members attending the July business meeting. The three winning quilts were made by Lindy Feigenbutz for “most creative”, Linda Huggins for “best workmanship” and Wendy Whittmore for “best use of color”.
The winning “ribbons”, aka dolls, were designed and made by Nina Stevens, who also designed and largely
created the “everybody gets one” ribbons. Nina was aided in the completion of the everybody ribbons by the Secret Sewers. Who can’t have fun with ribbons, a glue gun and fabric?
The mop lady holding the sign about the challenge was also designed and constructed by Nina Stevens, while Eleanor created the signs.
The challenge team is already hard at work designing next year’s challenge.
