Look Who’s Teaching In Sequim in 2008!!!
The 2008 lineup for classes is looking good! Class signups have begun for Judy’s class, and will begin at the October business meeting (October 10) for Velda, Reynola and Debbie. What a great year we have planned, and we’re not done!
Judy Richey January 23, 2008
2008 starts off with a class taught by Sunbonnet Sue’s own Judy Richey. The class, Summertime Stars, is a clever 5 pointed star pattern that you stack, cut and shuffle! (You don’t even need to worry about ¼ inch seams!) The class will be held on January 23, 9-3 in the Foyer of the Masonic Lodge. Class fee is $20, and is limited to 12 students.
Velda Newman March 13 & 14, 2008
In March 2008 Velda Newman is coming to Sequim. Velda is an internationally recognized contemporary quilt artist, author and lecturer from Northern California. Known for her large scale, mostly organic designs, Velda creates original quilts of exceptional beauty and craftsmanship. Velda’s work has appeared in many national and international exhibitions and has been featured in over 30 publications, including Quilter’s Newsletter and Treads magazine.
Velda will be giving a lecture, Q & A and quilt exhibition on March 12 titled “A Painter’s Approach to Quilt Design”. Announcements that day will be at 10 a.m, with the lecture beginning immediately after. There will be a potluck lunch following her lecture.
Velda will be teaching two classes, providing enrollments support two. On March 13 she will teach Creating Realism, with the emphasis on experimenting with fabrics to produce nature’s wide range of patters and colors. On March 14 she will teach Texture and Form 1, when students will learn how to “get rid of flat appliqué”, and create texture and form using machine techniques. The class fee for each class is $50. Classes will be held at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church on North 5th Avenue in Sequim.
New Orleans Puzzle Class April 23, 2008
Janet Lenfant is teaching the New Orleans Puzzle Class on April 23rd. Janet has shown us her completed topper in a wonderful gradation of blues. The class fee is $15, and a pattern is required. Details will follow soon on where to get the pattern.
Reynola Pakusich May 8, 2008
May brings May Showers…and Reynola Pakusich to Sequim. She is a third generation member of a family of quilters who settled in Eastern Washington and Idaho. She began quilting seriously in the 1970’s and teaching for quilt shops shortly afterward. Numerous photos of her quilts have been published in books and magazines, and she has had several one woman shows. She retired from public school teaching after 30 years in the Sedro-Wooley School District, and now combined quilting with her husband’s interests of fishing and hunting. She resides in Bellingham, Washington.
Reynola has published the book Circle Play, and has taught internationally and at many shops and guilds throughout the United States.
On May 7 she will give a lecture on “Ways to Use Ethnic and Hand Designed Fabrics”. Announcements will begin at 10 a.m., and her lecture will begin immediately after. There will be a pot luck lunch following her lecture.
On May 8 she will teach Overlapping Circles. The class fee is $25, and the class will be held at Trinity Methodist Church on S Blake Avenue in Sequim.
Debbie Caffrey August 13, 2008
