Artist's Statement
My quilt adventure began with a group of women who wanted to expand art appreciation in their children's schools. We would share art prints and introduce the rules of art. We decided to sew a quilt for each school to make money for more art prints. We knew nothing about quilt making, but we were all good seamstresses. We loved the quilt making and the camaraderie. We met weekly for tea and quilt sharing and our mental health. We are still meeting after 40 years! My quilting story includes a love of fabric, having fun and an exploration of all the different techniques. It’s hard to decide my favorite, traditional or art. I love applique, paper piecing, embroidered, hand pieced and machine pieced. Quilter are such generous people. It is a pleasure to take classes and work with fellow quilters. The SBSQC and Community Quilts are an inspiration. It makes quilting worthwhile. |

2024 Raffle Quilt ~ 'Salish Sea'
The Salish Sea includes all bodies of water that surround the Olympic Peninsula. Strait of Juan de Fuca, Strait of Georgia, Puget Sound, and network channels with adjoining waterways are all parts of this 6,950 sq. miles.
The raffle quilt for 2024 honors two of the marine life species that live and give birth in the Salish Sea. Orca depend on salmon for their survival. In addition, this sea is the breeding ground for future generations of orca. The quilt is 80”x80” and marine life is raw edge applique. Colorful Batik fabrics were used to create flowing water, fish scales, and orca forms. The designs are all original and were created by a team from the Peninsula Art Quilters group: Gladis Marr, Anne Davies, and Marianne Nolte. Piecing and applique were accomplished by members of the PAQ community. Quilting by Alana Levesque. This quilt will be on display at A Stitch in Time Quilt Shoppe in Sequim starting March 1, 2024 until all raffle tickets are sold. |

2023 Featured Artist ~ Janet Lenfant
Artist's Statement:
My motto: I will try anything once! Of course, with my Nana who crushed up costume jewelry in her kitchen blender to decorate eggs and a mom who tried everything crafty under the sun, what would you expect? I started out sewing clothing for my Barbie, including knitting her a sweater on toothpicks, and sewed clothing for me and my family. Then I segued into quilting in the 80’s and later into bag making. Those endeavors have stayed with me over the years. I have been an active member in Sunbonnet Sue Quilt Club since I moved to Sequim in 2003. I went on a quilt retreat the first month I joined and in later years had my mother join me. The Club has filled my need for friendship, inspiration and finding ways I could help out (including leading exercises at Club and retreats!) |

Artist's Statement: I joined SBSQC in 2018 after retiring as the Director of Human Resources for Peninsula College. I learned to sew in 4-H and made clothing and household items until 1990 when I saw a woman quilting on a picnic table in Key West. She introduced me to rotary cutters and rulers and I had the first project to work on the flight back to Washington and I never looked back. I am an active member of Community Quilts and I am proud of the work we do for the community. I am also honored to be chosen Club Member of the Year for 2021 and Featured Artist of the Year for 2022. |
