2024 Raffle Quilt ~ 'Salish Sea' The Salish Sea includes all bodies of water that surround the Olympic Peninsula. Strait of Juan de Fuca, Strait of Georgia, Puget Sound, and network channels with adjoining waterways are all parts of this 6,950 sq. miles. The raffle quilt for 2024 honors two of the marine life species that live and give birth in the Salish Sea. Orca depend on salmon for their survival. In addition, this sea is the breeding ground for future generations of orca. The quilt is 80”x80” and marine life is raw edge applique. Colorful Batik fabrics were used to create flowing water, fish scales, and orca forms. The designs are all original and were created by a team from the Peninsula Art Quilters group: Gladis Marr, Anne Davies, and Marianne Nolte. Piecing and applique were accomplished by members of the PAQ community. Quilting by Alana Levesque. This quilt will be on display at A Stitch in Time Quilt Shoppe in Sequim starting March 1, 2024 until all raffle tickets are sold. |
2023 Raffle Quilt 'Memories'
Some say inspiration has an energy of its own. This energy passes from one artist to another, going to where it will develop until fruition. This story is an example of that energy. This year's raffle quilt was started years ago by a much beloved member, Jeri Hight. Before Jeri passed, she bought the pattern “Italian Memories” and started the little brown squares you see in the quilt. She was a member of the SBDQC appliqué friendship group “Rain Shadow Rhodes” It was in this friendship group that Nancy Wilcox met and befriended Jeri. It wasn’t just Nancy that thought fondly of Jeri, when I mentioned her name to former members of that group smiles broke out on all of their faces. Descriptors like “colorful” lively and wonderful appliqué artist followed her name. So, when Nancy came across the small little squares so lovingly created by Jeri, Nancy decided that to finish the quilt for the club’s raffle would be the best way to honor Jeri Hight. That inspiration brought us “Memories” |
